On October 2, 2021, Migori County farmers received a significant boost to their agricultural endeavors with the delivery of farm inputs and machinery worth Sh5 million.
The Agricultural Sector Development Support Program (ASDSP) in coordination with Migori County made the donation to various farmer groups across the county, with the aim of increasing production and reducing reliance on unpredictable rainfall.
Migori County Secretary for Agriculture, Mr. Valentine Ogongo, presented the farm inputs and machineries to the farmers, emphasizing the benefits of the donation.
"The issue of relying on rainfall so that we plant is going to change since the climatic patterns have become unpredictable," Mr. Ogongo said.
The farm machines included three Tricycles, three Solar Power Irrigation System Machines, four Poultry Milling machines, and Starter Mixtures for feed formulation.
Mr. Ogongo highlighted the importance of the irrigation equipment, stating that it would enable various farmer groups, including women and youth, to do their farming instead of relying on rainfall.
He also emphasized the benefits of the feed formulation machines, which would reduce the cost of feeds for farmers, and urged poultry farmers to utilize and maintain the machines to ensure maximum profits.
Additionally, the farmers received maize and sunflower seed, cake seeds, and fertilizers, with Mr. Ogongo encouraging them to utilize the October rains and plant the seeds to boost their produce.
