Published on October 2, 2021, a brewing storm is unfolding at the Kenya Utalii College, with several staff members interdicted by Principal Hashim Mohamed.

According to sources, on Friday, several employees were blocked from accessing the institution and given interdiction letters signed by the CEO.

The letters cited gross misconduct and breach of internal college human resource policy as reasons for the interdictions.

However, the Union of Kenya Civil Servants has taken up the case, accusing Hashim Mohamed of mismanaging the institution and being high-handed.

The union claims that the college has brought about disparities in salaries due to the implementation of a new salary structure.

On September 9, the union wrote to the management, calling for a meeting to address the designations of staff and their effects on the salary scale levels and positions.

On September 23, the union's Secretary General, Tom Odege, wrote to the College Chairman, Mwambu Muliro, asking him to intervene in the matter.

Hashim Mohamed responded on September 29, stating that the chairman had asked him to urgently contact the union and deal with the issues swiftly.

However, insiders claim that the college is harassing staff who raised concerns about the New Grading structure and redesignations.

They also alleged that the interdictions are a result of employees blowing the whistle on information concerning an investigation that revealed massive looting of cash at the institution.
