Kenya Reports 260 New COVID-19 Cases, 4.2% Positivity Rate

Kenya's COVID-19 cases continue to rise, with 260 new infections reported on October 1, 2021, from a sample size of 6,226 tested in the last 24 hours.

According to a statement from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the positivity rate stood at 4.2%, pushing Kenya's total of confirmed positive cases to 249,434 out of 2,556,222 tested.

Breaking down the new cases, Kagwe reported that 256 were Kenyans, while 4 were foreigners. The age range of the new cases spanned from a one-year-old child to a 99-year-old.

Geographically, Nairobi led in the new infections, with 63 cases, followed by Kajiado with 19, Kitui with 16, Kiambu with 15, and Nakuru with 13.

Other counties with new infections included Uasin Gishu with 11, Meru with 11, Wajir with 11, Bungoma with 8, Garissa with 6, Mombasa with 6, Homa Bay with 5, Kericho with 5, Makueni with 5, Nandi with 5, Nyandarua with 5, Bomet with 4, Laikipia with 4, Kirinyaga with 4, Embu with 4, Machakos with 3, Kakamega with 3, Kisumu with 3, Murang'a with 3, Tharaka Nithi with 3, Samburu with 3, West Pokot with 3, Siaya with 2, Busia with 2, Isiolo with 2, Taita Taveta with 2, Turkana with 2, Vihiga with 2, Elgeyo Marakwet with 1, Kilifi with 1, Kisii with 1, Migori with 1, Narok with 1, Nyeri with 1, and Trans Nzoia with 1.

As of October 1, 2021, a total of 1,021 patients were admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,193 were under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

According to the Health Ministry, 66 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 45 on ventilatory support and 21 on supplemental oxygen. No patient was under observation.

Additionally, 336 patients were on supplemental oxygen, with 324 in general wards and 12 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

On a positive note, total recoveries in the country rose to 241,520 on October 1, 2021, following a report of 109 new recoveries. Of these, 78 were from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program, while 31 were from various health facilities countrywide.

Unfortunately, four new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, all of which were late reports discovered after conducting facility record audits in September 2021.
