On July 4, 2019, outgoing British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey met with Deputy President William Ruto at the Karen State residence to discuss the potential extension of student visas.
According to Hailey, the student visa extension would allow learners to gather industry experience in the UK, which is essential for best practices and innovations to be hatched.
Hailey noted that the relationship between Kenya and the UK has grown exponentially over the past four years, particularly in investment and commerce.
Kenya has a unique trade link with the UK, which is almost balanced, and many British companies have expanded their presence in Kenya, generating thousands of jobs.
Hailey also highlighted the opportunities that would be created through the renewed focus on Kenya's agriculture through innovations and value addition by British firms.
Dr. Ruto lauded Hailey for his exemplary work during his tenure in Kenya and expressed the country's commitment to sustaining its engagement with the UK.
He emphasized that Kenya will always be looking for opportunities to partner with the UK to better its development trajectory.
Hailey's four-year duty in Kenya comes to a close at the end of July 2019.
