On September 29, 2021, the Sigona Golf Club witnessed a thrilling conclusion to the opening leg of the 2021/22 Safari Tour Golf Series, with Taimur Malik emerging as the winner.

Malik, an 18-year-old amateur golfer from Muthaiga, edged out Mohit Mediratta in a two-way play-off, having previously tied with Vet Lab pro Edwin Mudanyi on a four under par 284 after four rounds.

Malik's impressive performance was marked by a seven under par 65 in the final round, which also saw him set a new amateur course record at the club.

"Today, I played my best ever golf. I still can't believe that I won," Malik said amid tears, attributing his success to extensive training and the support of his South African-based coaches.

Despite the victory, Malik received no cash prize, as he has yet to join the paid ranks.

Mediratta, who had led the tournament for most of the rounds, expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, "I resolved today that it was me against the course, and the resolution saw me tie at the top before we went for the play-offs."
