September 20, 2018, was a night that would change the course of a murder trial. Businesswoman Monicah Kimani was found dead in her apartment, and the investigation that followed would reveal a web of suspicious events.
Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, a suspect in the murder, made a disturbing request to a neighbor, Brian Kasaine, on that fateful night. According to Kasaine, Jowie called him on WhatsApp, asking for paraffin or something flammable to burn some stuff.
Kasaine, who was the second prosecution witness in the trial, testified that he was asleep with his wife when Jowie made the request. He told the court that he replied, saying he did not have the items Jowie was asking for.
But what's even more intriguing is that Jowie did not specify what kind of stuff he wanted to burn. Kasaine described Jowie's tone as 'odd and hyper' during the conversation.
It's worth noting that Jowie had a history of borrowing Kasaine's firearm without ammunition and returning it the same day. He would often say he wanted to test if he had forgotten to use a gun since he left the military long ago.
On the same day, Kasaine met Jowie outside his house, where he lived with ex-lover Jackie Maribe. Jowie was wearing a white vest and grey sweat pants and looked 'very disturbed in mind.'
The trial continues, with more revelations expected to come to light.
