On September 29, 2021, Arsenal announced that midfielder Granit Xhaka would be out of action for up to three months due to a knee injury sustained during the north London derby against Tottenham.

The injury occurred when Xhaka collided with Tottenham's Lucas Moura, who had been challenged by Thomas Partey.

Following a specialist examination in London, it was determined that Xhaka suffered a significant injury to his medial knee ligament.

Fortunately, surgery was not required, and Xhaka's recovery and rehabilitation program began immediately.

According to an Arsenal statement, the team is aiming for Xhaka to return to action in approximately three months, with everyone at the club working hard to support his recovery.

This setback comes after Xhaka's first game back following a three-match ban for a red card in the 5-0 loss at Manchester City before the international break.

Additionally, Xhaka had only recently recovered from testing positive for the coronavirus.
