On September 29, 2021, SportPesa Foundation took a significant step towards promoting safe deliveries in the Mukuru community by supporting the Ruben Centre with essential equipment for its maternity wing.
The non-profit facility, which relies entirely on donations to cater for the community, especially young mothers and children born with disabilities, will now be able to serve more patients and provide better services thanks to the donation.
Speaking during the visit, SportPesa Foundation Lead Esther Matere emphasized the importance of the support, saying, 'We believe that this support will encourage more women from the surrounding Mukuru area to opt for safe delivery in hospitals as opposed to giving birth at home.'
The Ruben Centre, which also serves as a rehabilitation and physiotherapy centre for children born with disabilities, handles an average of 250 patients per day and more than 100 deliveries per month. The centre relies solely on donations to ensure the safe birthing process for mothers.
According to Zipporah Mwangi, in charge of the Ruben Centre, 'This donation will go a long way in ensuring the mothers who come into this clinic access the best services thanks to the availability of proper equipment.'
As part of its maternal health support initiative, SportPesa Foundation has made donations to several health facilities across the country, including Rironi Health Centre in Limuru, Lunga Lunga Health and Riruta Health Centres in Nairobi, Mikinduri sub-County Hospital and Ankamia Dispensary both in Meru, and Ndarawetha Dispensary in Bomet.
