Published on September 29, 2021, Juba, South Sudan - In a recent address to sector commanders, Gen Atem Marol, the head of South Sudan's Immigration, Passports and Civil Registry, revealed that at least 40 Afghans have entered the country without following the required legal procedures.

According to Gen Marol, the refugees entered the country illegally, and it is unclear how they managed to do so. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with the refugees and provide them with the necessary reception.

The discovery comes after the Taliban took control of Kabul on August 15, 2021, and announced a general amnesty for state employees, encouraged women to participate in its prospective government, and pledged that Afghan soil would not be used as a springboard for harming any country.

Uganda, which has hosted Afghan refugees, received 51 evacuees in late August 2021, making it the first African country to do so. The country has a long history of hosting refugees, with over 1.5 million refugees, making it the largest refugee-hosting nation on the African continent and the fourth in the world.
