September 28, 2021, marked a thrilling night in the Champions League as Atletico Madrid edged past 10-man AC Milan with a 2-1 victory.

Atletico's Luis Suarez scored a last-gasp penalty in the 97th minute, securing the win after Antoine Griezmann had leveled the score in the 84th minute.

The Spanish side's victory was sparked by a frenetic atmosphere, with AC Milan taking an early lead through Rafael Leao in the 20th minute.

However, the home fans were silenced just nine minutes later when Franck Kessie was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

As the game wore on, AC Milan retreated further back, allowing Atletico to mount pressure that eventually paid off when Griezmann fired into the bottom corner to level the score.

With the game heading towards its final minutes, Pierre Kalulu was adjudged to have handled the ball, giving Atletico the chance to snatch a dramatic victory at the death.

Suarez converted from the spot to a chorus of boos, securing the win for Atletico and leaving AC Milan without a point at the bottom of Group B.
