On September 28, 2021, the European Union announced a major relief package to support member states affected by Brexit.
The package includes a €1.1 billion allocation for Ireland, which shares the EU's only land border with the United Kingdom, to help cover the significant economic setbacks resulting from the UK's departure.
France will receive €735 million, with a substantial portion dedicated to its fishing industry, which has faced a 25% reduction in access to UK waters under the terms of the Brexit agreement.
Although a last-minute post-Brexit trade deal was reached between London and Brussels on December 24, 2020, new customs regulations have introduced added costs and paperwork for businesses on both sides.
As a result, the British government has implemented its own support programs for UK businesses affected by the economic shocks of leaving the EU.
