September 27, 2021, Nairobi, Kenya - The Ogiek community has rallied behind Isaac Ngugi's nomination to replace the late Victor Prengei as a nominated Senator.
Prengei's death in a car accident in Nakuru last month left the seat vacant, prompting the community to call for one of their own to take over.
Community members had previously complained that the Jubilee party should have named Peter Cheruiyot, a Regional Director, to replace Prengei.
Cheruiyot, who was elected Nakuru Jubilee branch secretary ahead of the 2017 General Election, has been a fierce supporter of the party in the region.
During the funeral service of the late Senator, members of the Ogiek community asked the Jubilee party leadership to consider nominating one of their own as Prengei's replacement.
Cheruiyot has urged Ngugi to represent not only the concerns of the youth but also the issues of minority tribes, including the Ogiek, El Molo, Wata, and Boni.
"I want to urge my Ogiek community to stand with the party and the nominated Senator Ngugi so as to ensure he propels the dream and belief the community had in me," Cheruiyot said.
"We urge Nominated Senator Ngugi to not only represent the youth but the minority groups which include Ogiek, El Molo in Turkana, Wata in Tana River, Boni in Lamu among others," Cheruiyot added.
