On September 27, 2021, Kenyan driver Carl Tundo secured his third consecutive win in the 2021 FIA Africa Rally Championship (ARC) by emerging victorious in the Sarago Zambia International Motor Rally.

Tundo, who was navigated by Tim Jessop in a Minti Motorsport VW Polo R5, outpaced South African Guy Boterril and Ugandan Yassin Nasser to claim second and third place respectively.

With this win, Tundo extended his lead in the championship, having previously won the ARC Equator Rally in Kenya and the Rally of Tanzania.

However, the Zambian round of the rally was marred by the misfortune of home hero Leroy Gomes, who was well on course for a strong finish before breaking a drive shaft in the final stage.

Another Zambian driver, Muna Singh Jnr, also suffered mechanical damage after hitting a tree, bringing an end to his rally.

Tundo himself faced challenges in the final stage, picking up two punctures but managing to change them in record time, according to his team, Minti Motorsport.

"The boys had a puncture in the 10th stage which they managed to change in a record time," Minti Motorsport wrote in a Facebook newsfeed.

Tundo's win has put him in a strong position to clinch his first continental title, a feat he hopes to achieve to make a double of championship wins, as he continues to lead both the ARC and KNRC logs.

His victory has also sparked hopes that he can repeat the unprecedented double made by compatriot Jassi Singh in 2015.
