Kenya Sevens Secure Third Place at Edmonton 7s ¶
On Monday morning, Kenya Sevens secured a third-place finish at the Edmonton 7s, defeating hosts Canada 33-14 in the third-place playoffs at Commonwealth Stadium.
This podium finish marks Kenya's second consecutive top-three finish at the shortened World Sevens Series, which concluded in Canada.
The match began with Kenya taking a 14-0 lead, courtesy of tries by Nelson Oyoo and Alvin Otieno, both of which were converted by Levy Amunga. However, Canada responded with a Jake Thiel try, narrowing the gap to 14-7 at halftime.
Canada continued to push forward in the second half, with Alex Russell scoring a try that tied the scores at 14-14. But Kenya regained the lead with a Willy Ambaka try, converted by Amunga, and later extended their advantage with a second try by Otieno.
With the score at 26-14, Billy Odhiambo sealed the win with a final touchdown, which he also converted for the final 33-14 scoreline.
Kenya's path to the third-place playoff was paved by a 33-7 loss to eventual Edmonton 7s winners South Africa in the semifinals.
