On Monday, September 27, 2021, Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan appeared on Citizen TV for an interview, where he expressed his concerns over recent remarks made by Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia.
Kimemia, a former Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet under President Mwai Kibaki, had admitted to the existence of the deep state and its influence on election outcomes, particularly the presidential polls.
Keynan argued that Kimemia's statements were misleading and created imaginary fear and antagonism among Kenyans.
"The remarks that were made by Governor Kimemia were reckless, untimely and unhelpful in the preparations of the General Election in 2022," Keynan stated.
He emphasized that people should not count on the support of the 'deep state', but rather on the votes of Kenyans.
Keynan also expressed his concerns over the credibility of the electoral system, stating that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should be allowed to run its affairs autonomously.
He added that the IEBC, under Wafula Chebukati, should be ruthless with the law and ensure that Kenyans get a credible election.
