On September 26, 2021, AFC Leopards kicked off their 2021/22 season with a thrilling 1-0 win over Tusker, the defending champions of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), at the Thika Stadium.
Ingwe's Saad Musa scored the winning goal in the first half, securing the three crucial points for the team.
Despite Tusker's acting captain Boniface Muchiri's failed attempt to level the score from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute, Leopards held on to their lead.
Speaking after the match, Leopards assistant coach Tom 'Gaza' Juma emphasized the importance of the win, citing the team's financial struggles.
'I'm happy because we psyched up the boys for the match and they got it right,' Juma said in an interview with Citizen Digital. 'The coach (Belgian Patrick Aussems) may not be here but we have been in touch. Even this morning, we discussed the way to approach the match. He will be back next week.'
Leopards' assistant coach called on fans and well-wishers to support the team financially during these challenging times.
