On September 11, 2021, Senegal secured a historic win in the Africa Deaflympics Ball Games Qualifiers, defeating Mali 1-0 to become the inaugural men's football champions.
Marro Khadim's penalty goal in the 25th minute proved to be the decisive factor in the tense final match held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
The Senegalese team's victory earned them a spot alongside the Kenya men's and women's basketball teams and the Kenya women's football team to represent Africa in the 2022 Deaflympics Games in Brazil.
Earlier in the day, Kenya B's team captain Esther Moraa led her team to a 4-1 victory over Kenya A in a curtain-raising match at the same venue.
Emma Wawire scored a hat-trick in the 60th, 72nd, and 91st minutes, while Moraa added a goal in the 92nd minute to secure the win for Kenya B.
"It was a good game between us, we managed to win, I'm glad I scored one goal for my side. We are now going to train hard to prepare ahead for Brazil," Moraa said.
"We are happy we qualified for the global tournament for the first time," she added.
