Published on September 26, 2021, gospel singer Mercy Masika shared a candid account of her first pregnancy, a journey marked by financial turmoil and health complications.
According to Masika, she found herself in a precarious situation, unsure of how she would raise the hospital bill. Despite the challenges, she credits God for guiding her through this difficult period.
Speaking about her pregnancy, Masika revealed that she suffered from preeclampsia, a condition that put her kidneys at risk and caused high blood pressure. She also admitted to not having planned well for the pregnancy, which added to her stress.
“My pregnancy was exciting. But of course, I had several challenges. One being I was broke. I remember being in the hospital, and I did not have enough money. I do not know why I did not plan well. I think it was just a tough time for me financially. And two, I was unwell. I suffered preeclampsia which meant kidneys were failing, and the pressure was high,” she said.
Reflecting on her experience, Masika emphasized the importance of prenatal care, which she only learned about after her first pregnancy. She also spoke about the challenges she faced in her marriage, including a disagreement with her husband just a year after their wedding.
Despite the ups and downs, Masika and her husband, David Muguro, have been married for 12 years and continue to navigate the journey of marriage together.
