On July 3, 2019, detectives arrested Dennis Itumbi, the State House digital director, while he was having lunch at a restaurant near City Hall in Nairobi.
Itumbi, who operates from Deputy President William Ruto's office, was whisked to the DCI headquarters for questioning.
According to sources, the detectives were seeking to determine Itumbi's involvement in the penning of a fake letter that led to summons on three Cabinet Secretaries from Mount Kenya region over the alleged plot.
DCI boss George Kinoti warned that more suspects would be arrested in the coming days, and that people must take responsibility for their actions.
Itumbi was expected to appear in court on Thursday morning, but officers at the DCI Headquarters said they did not have charges yet against him and would be seeking more time to finalize investigations.
