Published on September 24, 2021, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has shed light on the existence of a powerful network of individuals who secretly control Kenya's government.
Speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break, Governor Mutua shared his experience with the 'Deep State' during his tenure as government spokesman under former President Mwai Kibaki.
At the time, this network was known as the 'Kitchen Cabinet', comprising government officials who wielded significant influence behind the scenes.
"When I served under Mwai Kibaki, I witnessed the frustrations of Ambassador Muthaura," Governor Mutua recalled in his book.
He explained that the 'Kitchen Cabinet' was an informal structure that allowed a select few to control the government's agenda, rather than the President leading from the front.
Fast-forward to the current government, Governor Mutua acknowledged that powerful individuals still exist who can influence national events, echoing the sentiments of Governor Kimemia.
However, he questioned whether President Kenyatta is leading from the front, as his predecessor did, or if he is allowing others to shape the government's decisions.
