Kenya's COVID-19 vaccination drive continues to gain momentum, with over 3.5 million people vaccinated by September 23, 2021.

According to the Ministry of Health, the country's COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 5.2% on Thursday, September 23, 2021, after reporting 317 new virus cases.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 27 additional virus-linked deaths, all of which were reported late after health facility audits in June, July, August, and September. This brought the country's total fatalities to 5,045.

As part of the ongoing vaccination exercise, the Ministry of Health has announced plans to deploy the Pfizer vaccine from next week, in addition to the AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines already in use.

The government aims to vaccinate 10 million adults by the end of December 2021, with plans to double the vaccination rate from 40,000 per day to 80,000. The vaccination priority age group has also been adjusted to start from 50 years.
