On September 18, 2021, a tragic incident shook the town of Nakuru when two children, Karuana Gakara, 3, and Dylan Gakara, 5, were found dead in their home. Their mother, Winnie Odhiambo, took to social media to mourn the loss of her children, expressing her deep regret and sense of responsibility for failing to protect them.
"My heart is shattered; I failed to protect you my loves," Winnie Odhiambo said in a heart-wrenching message.
However, the family of Dr. James Muriithi Gakara, the father of the children, has come out to deny the allegations of child murder. Dr. Gakara is an obstetrician at Optimum Current Hospital in Nakuru and is currently fighting for his life at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital under police watch.
Dr. Gakara's sister, Mary Gakara, has spoken out in defense of her brother, stating that he loved and cherished his children and would never harm them. "I know my brother very well. He would do anything to protect his children. He is also not the kind of person to commit such an act," she said.
The family is now calling for an investigation into the matter, citing that there are persons of interest who have yet to give an account of what happened. "Dr. Gakara was rarely alone with his children as it has been alleged. We hope that those yet to record statements will shed light on the matter," Mary Gakara said.
As the investigation unfolds, the family remains hopeful that the truth will come to light and that justice will be served.
