Prof Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad, a Kenyan-Somali scholar, was abducted from Nairobi city centre on September 8, 2021, and held in secret captivity for 10 days.

During his ordeal, Abdisamad was grilled by agents who concealed their identities and wore balaclavas at all times.

He was taken to a safe house where he was fed, given his medicine on time, and provided with a room for his prayers and a warm shower.

Abdisamad's abductors appeared to know a lot about him, including photos he had taken during a trip to Somalia, and asked him questions about his activities and connections in Somalia and regional security.

They were particularly interested in his views on Kenyan security issues, terrorism, and the maritime case pending at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Abdisamad was released on Sunday evening, September 19, 2021, and handed Sh2,000 for bus fare, just like Mombasa businessman Abdulhakim Salim Sagar, who was abducted on August 18 and released last Sunday.
