On September 18, 2021, a tragic scene unfolded in a Nakuru apartment, leaving a family in shambles. The bodies of five-year-old Dylan Gakara and three-year-old Karuana Gakara were found, with their father, Dr. James Gakara, a gynaecologist, fighting for his life at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
Ms. Winnie Odhiambo, the children's mother, took to social media to express her anguish, saying, 'My heart is shattered; I failed to protect you my loves. The person you trusted the most betrayed you my darlings, I promise to fight for justice for you; Go well my sweethearts.'
Dr. Gakara, who owns a clinic in Section 58, Nakuru, is suspected of killing his children before attempting to take his own life. Preliminary police reports indicated that the father was responsible for the murders.
As the family mourns, police officers are conducting investigations into the killings. Dr. Gakara's sister, Mary Gakara, has asked the police to keep an open mind during the investigation.
Residents of Nakuru are shocked by the tragic events, and the police have refused to give details on the progress of the investigation, citing the need to give the family time to mourn.
