Kenya Aims to Regain WRC Status with Upcoming Rally

Kenya is set to host a historic World Rally Championship (WRC) candidate event, with Sports Principal Secretary Amb. Kirimi Kaberia expressing confidence that the country will regain its WRC status.

On July 3, 2019, Kaberia conducted a recce on the CS 4.8 KMS Kasarani Super stage, which is part of the rally route.

"As a country, we are delighted to host this historic event, we have worked round the clock to deliver a successful WRC Candidate event," Kaberia said.

The candidate event, which will be flagged off by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday morning, has attracted 51 crews from different countries and is expected to draw hundreds of fans.

Kaberia will be driving the zero car, which is the route opener car, and has plans to develop the circuit as a training ground for motorsports drivers in Kenya.

Drivers scrutineering will continue tomorrow at Kasarani Stadium from 10 am - 4 pm.
