Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is on the cusp of returning to the club as its new manager, replacing Maurizio Sarri who departed for Juventus this summer.
According to reports, Lampard has been the clear favourite to succeed Sarri and has been pictured arriving at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, July 3, sparking speculation about his impending return.
MailOnline reports that Lampard could be in place once most first-team players start pre-season training on Friday, July 5, and will be joined by Jody Morris from Derby County as his assistant.
Lampard, who is Chelsea's all-time top scorer, is expected to sign a three-year contract worth around £4 million a year, with a number of incentives linked to the deal.
However, Lampard's impending return has been met with mixed reactions, with some questioning his managerial experience, having just a year of football management under his belt.
