On July 3, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Dennis Itumbi, a key figure in Deputy President William Ruto's publicity campaigns, in connection with a fake assassination letter that caused a rift in the executive.

According to reports, the FBI had assisted the DCI in tracing the source of the letter, which was first posted on Twitter and other social media platforms before it went viral at a Cyber Cafe in Karen.

Itumbi was arrested while having lunch at a popular food joint in Wabera Street, CBD, after a team of 11 detectives surrounded him and whisked him away to the DCI headquarters in Kiambu for questioning.

DCI director stated that investigations had put Itumbi at the center of the fabrication of the letter, which formed the basis of assassination claims leading to the accused Cabinet Secretaries being summoned for questioning.

Another blogger, only identified as Sam, was also arrested on Tuesday by detectives following the trails of the letter.

Itumbi will be taken to court on July 4, 2019, where the DCI is expected to ask the court to allow them to hold him for 14 more days while doing more investigations.
