Published on September 20, 2021, Tana River County Director of Education James Nyagah has expressed concern over rampant early pregnancy cases of school girls in Tana Delta Sub County.

Speaking at Marifano Secondary School, Mr. Nyagah cautioned students against indiscipline and urged them to work hard in their studies. He attributed the high teenage pregnancy rates to boda boda riders and matatu touts who lure and mislead young school girls with free rides and money.

According to Mr. Nyagah, Tana Delta Sub County has recorded 22 early pregnancies in secondary schools and 21 cases in primary schools this year. He called on parents, teachers, and students to team up and work together to curb the cases of early pregnancies and indiscipline in schools.

Garsen MP Ali Wario Guyo also spoke during the function, thanking President Uhuru Kenyatta for the donation of a school bus to the school. He appealed to the Ministry of Education to turn Marifano Day Secondary school into a boarding school to reduce cases of students' indiscipline and poor examination results.
