The Kip Keino Classic Meet, a gold label event by World Athletics, took place at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on September 18, 2021. The event drew in a large and lively crowd, including President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Despite fans being advised to follow the championship remotely, some enthusiasts made their way to the stadium to cheer on their favorite athletes. One such fan, Angwenyi Gichana, had traveled from Kisumu to witness the spectacle.

Gichana noted that spectators could have been allowed to fill the stadium, which would have added to the excitement of the event. During the field events, fans were mesmerized by the miniature cars used to carry javelin sticks and hammers.

Some fans were torn between following the championship live on track and field or on the giant screens placed on either side of the stadium. One enthusiastic fan even rushed to the track to take a selfie with Olympics 100m silver medallist Fred Kerley after the American sprinter won the 200m race.

The event was not just about the athletics; it was also a celebration of music and culture. Drummers positioned at the first bend added to the excitement with their African musical sounds. Sponsors also made their presence felt, fighting for space to ensure their brands were visible and promoted globally.

For music lovers, the disc jockey did not disappoint, playing a mix of techno, rock, and topical songs that added to the occasion's atmosphere. A battery of journalists jostled for space to interview the winners, with some being awed by the presence of world-beaters like former Olympics 100m champion Justin Gatlin.

Accredited journalists also had the privilege of sampling sumptuous meals offered by high-profile catering companies contracted at the venue. The menu included a variety of delicacies such as nyama choma, beef stew, chicken fry, and blended coffee.
