On September 18th, Kenya welcomed a significant boost to its Covid-19 vaccination efforts with the arrival of 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China.
This delivery marks the fifth type of Covid-19 vaccine to be deployed in Kenya, joining Astrazeneca, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, and Pfizer in the country's vaccination arsenal.
Just a day prior, Kenya had received a shipment of Pfizer vaccines from the United States, further expanding the country's vaccine options.
Health PS Susan Mochache received the Sinopharm consignment at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, praising the strong bilateral relations between Kenya and China that made this delivery possible.
"The vaccines we are receiving today are testament to the cordial relations that exist between our two countries that extend beyond health care to include trade and other sectors of development," Mochache said.
She also highlighted the high quality of the Sinopharm vaccine, which has been approved by the World Health Organization.
"Like in many other areas, China has distinguished herself in quality products and the vaccines we are receiving here today are of high quality," Mochache noted.
The PS thanked the people of China for their support in Kenya's vaccination exercise and assured the public that all healthcare workers have been trained on the administration of the Sinopharm vaccine.
