A 50-year-old woman from Kilungu in Makueni County died at the Salama Police Station on September 15, 2021, while reporting her daughter to police.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman, identified as Consolata Mutua, had accused her teenage daughter of 'bad behaviour' and 'tormenting' her by not returning home during school holidays.

As she begged police officers to intervene, Mutua became emotionally overwhelmed and collapsed. Police officers and a well-wisher attempted to administer first aid, but she died while receiving treatment at the Kilungu Sub-County Hospital.

The DCI advised students to be responsible and take wise counsel from teachers and parents to avoid such incidents in the future. The agency also called upon religious leaders to guide and mentor young adults to become responsible adults.
