On September 16, 2021, Kenya and Ethiopia took a significant step towards boosting their trade relations with the signing of the Moyale One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) Procedure Manual in Addis Ababa.
The Kenyan delegation, led by Internal Security Secretary Wilson Njega, expressed confidence in stronger trade ties with Ethiopia, citing the facility's potential to simplify trade and ensure goods flow seamlessly within the confines of Customs laws.
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner for Customs and Border Control Lilian Nyawanda emphasized the need for the private sector to utilize the Moyale OSBP, which is majorly designed to facilitate trade by easing the movement of people and goods across the border.
According to Ethiopian Commissioner for Customs Debele Kebeta, the trade situation between the two countries is changing, with the volume and diversity of goods traded between them growing at a higher rate. He noted that the operationalization of the Moyale OSBP will be a breakthrough to boost trade relations and free movement of people between Ethiopia and Kenya.
The Moyale OSBP is a joint commitment between the two neighboring countries to boost their long-standing relations. The facility was inaugurated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on December 9, 2020.
