Kenyan students studying in Uganda have been out of school since March last year when institutions were closed to curb the spread of Covid-19.
President Yoweri Museveni recently opposed plans to reopen schools next month, citing the looming threat of the third wave of Covid-19 and the low vaccination rate of teachers, non-teaching staff, and students above 18 years.
According to government statistics, there are over 40,000 Kenyan students studying in Uganda at different levels of education, from form A Level to university.
As a result of the extended closure, some students have opted to study in Kenya instead of waiting for the Ugandan schools to reopen.
