On September 15, 2021, a dramatic collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen at the Italian Grand Prix left both drivers retiring from the race.

Hamilton's Mercedes came into contact with Verstappen's Red Bull on Lap 26, causing significant damage to both cars. The Red Bull ended up on top of the Mercedes, with Hamilton's head being struck by a wheel.

Although the halo on Hamilton's car protected him from serious injury, he complained of feeling tight and experiencing a headache after the incident.

“His rear wheel landed on my head,” Hamilton said, describing the incident.

Hamilton plans to see a medical specialist to ensure he is fit for the next race, which he will attend after a brief trip to the United States for the MET Gala.

Reflecting on the aftermath, Hamilton said he was initially in 'race mode' and didn't notice the pain much at first, but was unable to reverse his car and get back onto the track.
