On September 13, 2021, Guinea's military junta, which seized power from former President Alpha Conde, announced a toll-free number for civilians to report any abuses by security forces.
The toll-free number, 100, will be available to all telephone operators in Guinea and is intended to provide a safe and accessible means for civilians to report any abuses they may have witnessed.
As part of its commitment to a transition process, the junta has also announced a four-day consultation program with different groups, including religious leaders, civil society groups, and business people, starting on Tuesday.
Regional leaders had previously met with detained President Alpha Conde and reported that he was in good health.
A Guinean national spoke to KDRTV two hours before this post, saying, "We are happy for our soldiers and we believe that they have Guineans in their heart..."
Separately, South Africa has eased some of its COVID-19 restrictions as the number of infections has fallen.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the overnight curfew would be shortened, alcohol restrictions would be lifted, and larger gatherings would be allowed.
