On August 13, 2021, Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) resumed operations at its Olkaria geothermal spa in Naivasha, Kenya, following a thorough assessment by the Ministry of Health and Nakuru County Government Health Officials.

The spa had been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but after receiving a clean bill of health, KenGen was able to reopen the facility under strict compliance with COVID-19 preventive measures.

"I encourage members of the public visiting our Geothermal Spa to observe all COVID-19 protocols as you enjoy this natural resource that is unique not only in Kenya but in the entire African continent," said KenGen Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Miano.

During the closure, KenGen conducted routine maintenance and improved the facility to enhance user experience.

The reopening of the Olkaria Geothermal Spa offers Kenyans an alternative to distant tourist destinations, allowing them to explore the health benefits of geothermal steam, which is also used for electricity generation.
