On September 9, 2021, a tragic incident occurred in Huruma, Nairobi, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old boy.
According to police, the boy, Haila Asanake, was standing on a balcony at his Kiamaiko home when he was fatally struck by a stray bullet fired by DCI detectives.
The detectives were responding to a situation where a suspicious motor vehicle had been stopped, and the driver had allegedly started a scuffle with them.
As the situation escalated, members of the public reacted by stoning the detectives, prompting them to shoot in the air.
Unfortunately, the stray bullet hit Asanake, who died on arrival at the Jumuia Hospital.
The deceased's uncle, Branu Boku Cheme, described Asanake as a law-abiding boy who occasionally earned money by working as a porter.
Asanake's body remains preserved at the Jumuia Hospital, awaiting postmortem.
