Kenyan distance runner Agnes Jebet Tirop made history on July 30, 2021, by shattering the women's 10km world record at the Road to Records in Germany.
With a blistering finish, Tirop clocked 30:01, a stunning 28 seconds off the previous record held by Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya, set at the Birell Prague Grand Prix in 2017.
It was a clean sweep for Kenyan road racers, with Sheila Chepkirui and Nancy Jelagat taking the second and third positions in 30:17 and 30:50, respectively.
Tirop's impressive performance saw her pass the 9km mark in 27:07, a world record pace, before sprinting the final kilometre in 2:54.
Reflecting on her achievement, Tirop said, 'I am so happy to break the world record. The pace was tough but I felt my body was responding well.'
