Kenya Reports 511 New Covid-19 Cases, 6 Deaths

Kenya has reported a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 511 new infections detected within the last 24 hours. This brings the national tally to 243,456, as of September 12, 2021.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the cases were identified from 6,434 samples, out of a total of 2,450,791 samples tested so far. The country's positivity rate stands at 7.9 per cent.

Of the new cases, 503 are Kenyans, while eight are foreigners. The age range of the cases is diverse, with the youngest being a 10-month-old infant and the oldest being 96 years old.

Unfortunately, six more patients have succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll to 4,902. Meanwhile, 1,018 patients have recovered from the disease, with 810 being from the home-based care programme and 208 discharged from various hospitals.

There are currently 1,617 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,447 are in home-based isolation and care. Additionally, 148 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 99 on ventilatory support, 35 on supplemental oxygen, and 14 on observation.
