Kenya's national men's volleyball team has exited the African Nations Championships at the group stage, despite a thrilling start to the tournament.
On Wednesday, Kenya pulled off a stunning 3-2 (19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 15-12) victory over tournament favourites Egypt, sending shockwaves throughout the competition.
However, their momentum was short-lived as they suffered a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 17-25, 21-25) defeat at the hands of Morocco in their second match, which ultimately sealed their fate.
With Egypt and Morocco advancing to the quarterfinals, Kenya was left to play Burkina Faso in a classification match, which they won 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-22).
Despite their disappointing exit, the team's coach, Gideon Tarus, expressed pride in their youngsters' performance, particularly their thrilling win over Egypt.
However, the team's fate was sealed when Egypt beat Morocco 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19), securing their spot in the quarterfinals and ending Kenya's journey at the Kigali tournament.
