Published on September 11, 2021, a tragic incident unfolded in Thika East, Kiambu County, where Erick Mutugi, a 24-year-old man, is suspected of slitting his lover's throat in a car on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

The couple, who welcomed their first child in April, had planned to visit her parents in Bungoma that weekend to receive blessings. However, their visit was cut short as both Mutugi and his lover are now deceased.

According to Thika East Deputy Commander Nyaga Muthee, Mutugi had hired the vehicle from a dealer on Kenyatta Road in Juja, where he lived with the woman. The couple's four-month-old baby was found sleeping in the co-driver's seat in the car.

After the incident, the mob set the thicket alight, smoked out Mutugi, and assaulted him before setting his body on fire. The woman died at the scene.

Police are yet to establish what might have led to Mutugi killing his partner. The couple's bodies were taken to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika, pending postmortem.
