Published on September 11, 2021, RwandAir is expanding its footprint in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with new routes to Lubumbashi and Goma, in addition to its existing Kigali-Kinshasa route.

The airline will launch its Kigali-Lubumbashi route on September 29, followed by Kigali-Goma flights, as it seeks to cement its presence in the DRC.

The improved relations between DRC and Rwanda since President Felix Tshisekedi came to power have opened up the Congolese frontier to RwandAir, allowing the airline to tap into the growing demand for air travel in the region.

Jimmy Musoni, RwandAir's head of global operations, stated that recovery of the airline's network will be a top priority as it seeks to turn around its fortunes.

As part of its recovery, the airline will also resume flights to Uganda on September 17 and to Mumbai on September 20, after two years of suspension.

The airline has also resumed flights to London, Johannesburg, Lusaka, Harare, and Cape Town, and will bank on its newly signed interline deal with Qatar as it embarks on its long road to recovery.
