Covid-19 Cases Rise to 242,284 in Kenya

Kenya has recorded a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 501 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the national tally to 242,284, as announced by the Ministry of Health on September 9, 2021.

The cases were identified from 6,879 samples tested, taking the cumulative number of samples tested to 2,436,216. The country's positivity rate has risen to 7.3 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Health, 487 of the new cases are Kenyans, while 14 are foreigners. The age range of the new cases includes a two-month-old infant and a 102-year-old individual.

Unfortunately, the national death toll has risen to 4,864, following the loss of 34 more patients to the virus.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 312 patients had recovered, with 122 recovering from home-based isolation and care, and 190 from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 230,407.

There are currently 1,752 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,864 patients are in home-based isolation and care. Additionally, 163 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 117 on ventilatory support, 40 on supplemental oxygen, and six under observation.

The cases are spread across various counties, with Nairobi reporting 137 cases, followed by Uasin Gishu with 55 cases, and Nakuru with 38 cases.
