On July 3, 2019, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a special message to Tanzanian President John Magufuli, expressing his government's annoyance over recent incitement remarks by Kenyan legislator Charles Njagua Kanyi (alias Jaguar) against foreign investors.

The message was delivered by Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania Dany Kazungu in Dar es Salaam, where it was received by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on behalf of the president.

Prime Minister Majaliwa welcomed the measures taken by the Kenyan government against MP Njagua, stating that his comments were personal and not representative of the Kenyan government or its people.

"The relationship between Kenya and Tanzania is very close, with some tribes living in both countries, such as the Maasai, Luo, and Kurya," he noted.

He urged leaders and residents of East African countries to refrain from inciting statements that might create hatred, tension, and conflict among nations in the region.

Mr. Majaliwa also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and cooperation in the region, stating, "All our activities in the East African countries, in particular business, will go well if we protect and maintain peace, without that we will fail to cooperate."
