Published on July 3, 2019, a new software update is available for Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ users in Kenya. The update primarily aims to upgrade the security patch level of the devices to June 2019, while also introducing several camera enhancements.
One of the notable improvements is the addition of Live Focus effects, which debuted on the Galaxy S10. These effects include Blur, Spin, Zoom, and Color Point, and can be applied to photos taken in Live Focus mode. To access the effects, users need to open the Gallery app, select the desired photo, and tap on Change background effect.
The update also brings a dedicated Night mode to the camera app, which was first introduced on the Galaxy S10 in April. This feature allows users to capture high-quality photos in low-light conditions. Additionally, the camera app now supports scanning QR codes by simply pointing the camera at the code, eliminating the need for Bixby Vision or other third-party apps.
The update weighs around 600MB and includes several other improvements, such as enhanced performance for the Camera app, improved usability of the QR Code reader, and stability enhancements for the Messaging, Contacts, and Gallery apps.
OTA updates may take several days to reach all units, so users should not be surprised if their neighbors have already received the update while they have not.
