Dennis Itumbi Arrested Over Threats to Kill William Ruto

On July 1, 2019, Dennis Itumbi, a digital communications officer in the office of the President, was arrested by DCI detectives over a letter threatening to kill Deputy President William Ruto.

The FBI had completed an investigation into the source of the threatening letter, which was circulated online, and the results focused on the communication department in Ruto's office.

Itumbi, who denied being summoned by DCI, claimed he was working under the President, not the Deputy President.

Kenyan citizens took to Twitter to mock Itumbi's arrest, referencing a statement by Senator James Orengo.

Others also made jokes, referencing Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, who was a boyfriend of Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe.

Activist Boniface Mwangi also chimed in, reminding Itumbi of his past.

Itumbi is currently being held at the Muthaiga police station and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

His lawyer, Moses Chelanga, claims they have not been officially informed about the arrest.
