Kenya Records 258 New COVID-19 Cases and 9 Deaths Amid Ongoing Vaccination Efforts

September 6, 2021, marked a significant day in Kenya's fight against COVID-19 as the Ministry of Health reported 258 new cases from a sample size of 3,137, raising the total caseload to 240,430.

The country's positivity rate stood at 8.2 percent, a concerning figure that highlights the need for continued vigilance and adherence to public health measures.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 1,825 patients were admitted to various health facilities countrywide, with 151 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Furthermore, an audit conducted in health facilities revealed 9 additional deaths, bringing the total fatalities in the country from the pandemic to 4,795.

Kenya has made significant strides in its vaccination efforts, with 2,870,392 people vaccinated by September 6. The Health Ministry aims to vaccinate 10 million people by December, a target that seems increasingly achievable with the arrival of the second batch of 880,320 COVID-19 Moderna vaccine doses.

The vaccines were acquired with the assistance of the US government through the COVAX facility, which is helping the African Union secure vaccines for the continent.
