On a historic day for Kenyan women's football, Vihiga Queens booked their spot in the final of the Caf Women's Champions League Qualifiers after a thrilling 2-1 win over Simba Queens of Tanzania at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on September 6, 2021.
Maureen Achieng gave the hosts the lead in the 60th minute, but Simba Queens' Aisha Mnunka equalized in the 70th minute. However, Harambee Stars star Jentrix Shikangwa rose to the occasion in the 88th minute, scoring a stunning header to seal the win for Vihiga Queens.
The win now places Vihiga Queens one step closer to earning the sole ticket reserved for the region at the inaugural Caf Women Champions League.
Shikangwa's goal marked her sixth in the competition, while Achieng has now scored seven goals in the tournament.
Vihiga Queens will now face the winners of the second semifinal between Lady Doves of Uganda and Ethiopia's Commercial Bank in the final.
