Published on September 6, 2021, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has reversed the suspension of Fahad Yassin, the Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in a move that has sparked a public disagreement with Prime Minister Hussein Roble.

Yassin, a former Al-Jazeera journalist, was suspended by Roble on September 5, 2021, after he was accused of mishandling the disappearance of a spy agent, Ikram Tahlil Farah, who was later announced to have been murdered by Al-Shabaab militants.

However, in a statement on September 6, 2021, Farmaajo cancelled Roble's order and reinstated Yassin, citing that the move was against the laws and the provisional constitution.

The apparent disagreement between Farmaajo and Roble is centred on a report released by NISA on the kidnapping and killing of Ikram Tahlil Farah, which Roble had expressed dissatisfaction with and asked the spy agency to deliver a full report on within 48 hours.

This is the second time in a month that Roble and Farmaajo have publicly differed, following a disagreement in August 2021 over a decree banning government agreements with foreign entities until after elections.
