On September 5, 2021, a disturbing case of incest came to light in Trans Nzoia, where a 37-year-old man was arrested for forcing his 7-year-old daughter to drop out of school and become his wife.
According to local chief Janet Nafula, the girl, a Standard Seven pupil, had been missing classes since March. The chief revealed that the man had previously quarrelled with his wife and sent her packing earlier in the year.
Following the separation, the man turned to his daughter, prompting an elder to report the incest to the chief, who in turn led the police to arrest the man, a boda boda rider.
The suspect is currently being investigated and will be arraigned in court. The girl has been handed over to a rescue home for her safety and well-being.
